The K2 Basecamp trek is a dream trek for anyone associated with trekking and adventure. One of the most rewarding treks in the heart of the Karakoram, this trek offers a window of opportunity to view some of the world’s highest peaks, including K2 (8,611m), the second-highest peak in the world. The entire trip is completed in almost 14 days from Skardu to Skardu, including 9 days of trekking. The trek also includes crossing the high-altitude Ghondogoro La (5,940m), which connects the Baltoro valley with the Hushe valley. This is a strenuous trek that requires physical fitness, good stamina, and prior trekking experience.

Skardu to Askole/Jhula (3,100m, 9-10 hours) The group will drive today on 4×4 jeeps from Skardu via the beautiful Shigar valley till Askole or Jhula. The final destination depends on the bridge situation between Askole and Jhula, which was damaged in the 2022 flash floods. There will be a lunch stop near Dasu.
Pannah Valley – Acclimatization Walk (Optional) This day is reserved as an acclimatization day for a walk into the Panna valley. This valley is used as summer pasture for Askole villagers and offers amazing scenery. If the trek starts from Askole village, this walk will be skipped.
Jhula to Paiyu (3,450m, 8-9 hours) This is a long and hectic day and requires an early start. In the absence of clouds, this day will be very hot and dry. There might be some small water body crossings. Paiyu is the last campsite where trees are available.
Rest Day at Paiyu Rest days offer an opportunity to relax and recover from the initial two days of the journey. The guide might organize local walks for further acclimatization or technical orientation for GGLA crossing. Specially prepared dishes by the local kitchen staff will also be served.
Paiyu to Khuburse (3,990m, 6-7 hours) This is the day when the group meets the massive Baltoro glacier. A lunch break is done midday at Liligo campsite. There might be a water crossing involved. Khuburse campsite offers views of the Cathedral Towers, Trango Towers, and Urli Biaho peaks.
Khuburse to Urdukas (4,050m, 3-4 hours) This is a relatively shorter trekking day, but the walk is still strenuous and involves mostly glacier walking. Urdukas is the last non-glacier campsite.
Urdukas to Goro2 (4,380m, 7-8 hours) The group passes through the Baltoro glacier, viewing Mashebrum Peak (7,273m) and Muztagh towers on a clear day. This is the first night spent right on the Baltoro glacier, so the night is expected to be cold and will require additional insulation.
Goro2 to Concordia (4,650m, 5-6 hours) This is the day to view the magnificent K2, along with Broad Peak, G2, G3, G4, Mitre, and Chogolisa peaks. The altitude at Concordia makes itself felt, and the night could be one of the coldest of the whole trek.
Rest Day/K2 Basecamp This is a rest day. Optionally, members can decide to go to the actual basecamp of K2, where they might meet climbers planning to summit K2.
Concordia to Ali Camp (4,800m, 5-6 hours) The group will leave Concordia to walk on the Vigne glacier to reach Ali camp. Participants will rest here before attempting the pass.
Ali Camp to Khuspang (4,600m, 10-12 hours) This is the toughest day of the trek, involving the crossing of the high-altitude Ghondogoro La at 5,590m. The walk includes technical portions, especially during the descent, so every step must be taken carefully.
Khuspang to Saicho (3,350m, 7-8 hours) Today is the last day of walking on boulders and scree. Grass and trees start appearing again. Saicho is a nice campsite among Juniper trees.
Saicho to Skardu (8-9 hours) The group will trek gently to Hushe (3-4 hours), where jeeps will be waiting to take them back to Skardu after a 4-hour drive.
Buffer Day This is a buffer day to cater for any contingencies.
